Synopsis: Tokio is a modern male parallel to Pabsts Lulu. He’s a talented hairdresser who looks after his beautiful officer worker sister. He sleeps around with anyone and everyone, breaking hearts constantly. He treats the people he sleeps with as if he doesn’t have a heart.

His sister Sui spends some time away with a friend. The friend, a woman, is in love with his sister. When the sister returns home, the siblings begin an incestuous relationship. They live like a couple, and seek out the beauty in everything. Tokio seeks to express his “anima” — the feminine component of his psyche — while Sui explores her “animus” — her masculine side.
Like much of the new Japanese indie film, Animus Anima was shot with a digital camera (in this case, a Panasonic Varicam). It was completed in 2003, but not released theatrically until 2005. It is the first film of writer/director Reiko Saito.
